A translation quote that fixes the language and file scope

A translation quote should say more than a language name and a word rate. The source version, target locale, subject matter and output format define what the translator is being asked to deliver. This estimate sample separates translation, independent review and layout handling for a supplied business document. Certification, specialist review and major source changes need their own discussion rather than an assumed place in every assignment.

[Identify source and target languages, regional locale and source file version.]

[State how source words are counted and which noneditable content is included.]

[Attach terminology guidance and identify the subject-matter reviewer.]

[Define output formats, correction review and any certification requested separately.]

How to use the template.

  1. Inspect the complete source before quoting. Check scanned pages, tables, text inside images and handwritten material.
  2. Confirm the language pair, intended audience and target locale. Ask for reference terminology and any required style guide.
  3. Record the word-count basis and distinguish translation from review, layout reconstruction or other specialist tasks.
  4. Identify who resolves ambiguous source text and whether client changes after translation require a revised estimate.
  5. Check the delivery format and review process, then freeze the source version used to prepare the quote.

Useful answers.

Should I quote source words or target words?

State the basis you actually use and how the count is obtained. Source-word counts can be checked before work when the text is available, while another basis needs equally clear explanation.

Does the sample include certified translation?

No certification is promised by the sample. Ask what the receiving organization requires and assess whether you can provide the requested service before including it.

What if the client replaces the source document?

Compare the new version with the quoted one. Identify translated sections affected by additions or changes and issue a revised estimate rather than treating every revision as ordinary correction.
