A respectful scope sheet for cluttered-property cleanup
Begin with the person who lives in the home and the person authorized to instruct the cleanup. A crowded room is not permission to discard its contents. This hoarder cleaning checklist separates consent, sorting decisions and ordinary cleaning from hazards that need a trained specialist. It is a planning record, not a remediation procedure.

A respectful scope sheet for cluttered-property cleanup
Permission before possessions
- Record the resident, authorized decision-maker and a private contact method.
- Agree which rooms may be entered and which belongings may be moved.
- Identify documents, photographs, valuables and medication that must be referred to the resident.
- Choose a holding area for undecided belongings without blocking exits.
Walkthrough and stop points
- Observe access routes from a safe position; do not enter unstable piles or blocked areas.
- Note suspected sharps, bodily waste, pests, damaged wiring or structural movement without disturbing them.
- Agree to stop and refer hazards outside your training and equipment to an appropriate specialist.
- List unavailable utilities and any room excluded from the ordinary cleaning scope.
Sorting with a decision trail
- Label keep, donate, discard and undecided areas using language the resident accepts.
- Obtain decisions on closed containers before opening or disposing of them.
- Keep personal records and data-bearing devices separate for the owner to handle securely.
- Confirm the destination and permission for donation loads before arranging transport.
Cleaning after clearance
- Check that the agreed work area is accessible before bringing in equipment.
- List reachable surfaces and floors suitable for ordinary cleaning after sorting.
- Use products according to their labels and surface compatibility; never mix chemicals.
- Record odors, staining or damage that ordinary cleaning cannot resolve rather than promising removal.
A calm handover
- Review retained possessions and undecided items with the authorized contact.
- Document approved disposal using descriptions that avoid exposing private information.
- Return keys, secure the property and confirm any agreed follow-up visit.
- Record unfinished rooms and specialist referrals separately from completed cleaning.
[Property reference] [Authorized contact] [Approved rooms] [Crew lead] [Exceptions]
Avoid storing photographs of private documents or possessions unless specifically authorized and necessary.
How to use the template.
- Discuss goals privately and edit the DOCX with the resident or authorized representative before mobilizing a crew.
- Replace broad clear-out instructions with room limits, decision responsibilities and a process for uncertain belongings.
- Use the sheet at the walkthrough to decide what your team can safely undertake; do not use it to diagnose a person or certify the home.
- Mark deferred work openly and review disposal decisions before items leave the property.
Useful answers.
Can this list authorize throwing everything away?
No. Record consent and decision-making authority, then agree what happens to each category of belongings. Leave disputed items in an agreed safe holding area until a decision is made.
Does ordinary cleaning include biohazard removal?
The sheet deliberately separates suspected hazards from ordinary work. Stop when conditions exceed your training or equipment and arrange an appropriate specialist assessment.
How should I record progress without embarrassing the resident?
Use neutral room and task descriptions. Agree any photography beforehand, limit access to those records and discuss the handover privately.
Keep exploring.
