Turnover checks between vacation-rental guests

A turnover has a deadline, but an occupied home has surprises. Separate the departure inspection from the cleaning and the guest-ready check so a missing remote or stained duvet does not disappear behind a checked box. Adapt this Airbnb cleaning checklist to the actual beds, appliances and amenities at each rental; it is not an inspection standard from a booking platform.

Vacation-rental turnover task sheet

Before stripping the beds

  • Record property, departure confirmation, next arrival window and cleaner.
  • Check for left belongings, visible damage and missing items before moving them.
  • Notify the host about blocked access, pests or unsafe conditions; record instructions.

Laundry and sleeping spaces

  • Sort used sheets and towels according to the host laundry procedure.
  • Check mattress protectors, pillow covers and spare bedding for replacement needs.
  • Make each agreed bed with clean linen; inspect under beds and inside accessible drawers.

Kitchen reset

  • Check refrigerator and pantry against the host food-disposal instructions.
  • Clean appliance surfaces, sink, counters and agreed appliance interiors.
  • Wash and return dishes, cookware and utensils; check the coffee setup and trash liners.

Baths and guest supplies

  • Clean toilets, basins, tubs, showers and mirrors with suitable products.
  • Replace towels and restock the agreed toiletries without guessing the host supply level.
  • Report leaks, damaged grout or items that cleaning cannot remedy.

Ready for arrival

  • Clean living areas and floors; put furniture and remotes in their agreed places.
  • Check the property-specific amenity list, including patio items if included.
  • Record exceptions, photograph finished areas with permission and secure doors as instructed.

Follow cleaning-product labels; do not mix chemicals. Specialist repairs and hazardous cleanup are excluded unless separately arranged.

How to use the template.

  1. Walk the rental with the host and add its bed sizes, linen storage, trash location and checkout rules to the DOCX.
  2. Separate routine resets from periodic deep-clean tasks such as upholstery extraction or oven detailing. Agree who authorizes extra work.
  3. Assign responsibility for laundry that leaves the property and record any missing backup sets before the next arrival.
  4. Use the final pass to verify readiness, then send the host unresolved issues through your agreed communication channel.

Useful answers.

What if the departing guest has not left?

Record the access problem and contact the host before entering. Revise the working window with the host rather than treating an unavailable room as completed.

Should every leftover pantry item be thrown away?

Follow the property instructions. A host may keep labeled staples but require opened guest food to be removed. Record uncertainty instead of making a blanket decision.

Does this replace a deep-clean schedule?

No. Turnover work prepares the rental for the next guest. Keep a separate agreed list for periodic work, seasonal amenities and tasks that need the property vacant longer.
