Quote the fence runs, corners and gates separately

A fence quote should be readable beside a site sketch. Gate openings, corners, slope and an existing fence can change the work even when the total length looks straightforward. Use the sample to separate measured fence runs from gate hardware and removal, with the layout and material specification attached.

Example: the layout, quantities and prices are invented to illustrate an estimate. They are not fence rates or property-boundary advice.

[Attach the approved layout, gate swings, material, height and finish specification.]

[State whether post-setting materials are included and identify exclusions for difficult ground.]

[Confirm responsibility for boundary information, utility coordination and local approvals with the appropriate professionals and authorities.]

[Replace every amount, enter applicable tax and explain how changed quantities are approved.]

How to use the template.

  1. Measure each proposed run and label it on a sketch. Confirm the client's intended boundary information through the appropriate professional process rather than assuming an old fence marks the line.
  2. Specify the fence material, finish, post arrangement and gate opening. Include which way each gate is intended to swing.
  3. Separate removal, haul-away, vegetation clearance and difficult-ground assumptions instead of burying them in the linear-foot figure.
  4. Calculate actual labor and material costs, replace the example figures and agree the scope revision before ordering materials.

Useful answers.

Should a gate be part of the fence's linear-foot rate?

You can use your own pricing method, but identify gate size, construction and hardware clearly. A separate gate line often makes it easier to review a wide opening or a different latch specification.

How should I quote a sloping section?

Describe the intended treatment on the site sketch and price the work from that design. Do not let a straight-run description imply that stepping, raking or ground adjustments are automatically included.

Does the template confirm the property boundary?

No. Confirm boundary questions through the appropriate qualified professional and use your state's or local authority's guidance for approval questions. The estimate records a proposed layout; it does not establish a legal boundary.
