Make a landscape installation estimate follow the site plan

The same planting plan can involve very different work on a steep backyard and a bed beside the driveway. Your landscaping estimate should connect plant sizes, soil preparation and material delivery to a marked site plan. The downloadable example covers a small bed renovation with shrubs and mulch, leaving drainage changes, irrigation work and ongoing lawn visits outside the base scope unless you add them.

How to use the template.

  1. Mark each proposed bed on a sketch before measuring. Record sloped ground, buried obstructions and the path from the unloading point.
  2. Build a plant schedule with botanical or agreed common names, sizes and counts. Describe how unavailable plants may be substituted after discussion.
  3. Calculate soil and mulch quantities from your measured area and planned depth; allow for delivery and handling in your own costing.
  4. Separate installation work from establishment care. Explain watering responsibilities, cleanup and whether a follow-up inspection is included.
  5. Review the drawing and estimate together with the owner. Resolve optional features before converting the agreed scope into a work schedule.

Useful answers.

Should a planting estimate include a plant list?

Yes. The list makes size, variety and quantity clear and helps the owner compare alternatives. Keep it consistent with the plan so a revised bed does not leave an outdated plant total.

How do I price a yard with limited access?

Assess the actual unloading and carrying route. Hand movement, small equipment and extra handling can change labor needs, so describe the access assumption rather than applying an unexplained surcharge.

Does this sample cover weekly mowing?

It is arranged for an installation project. A mowing estimate needs its own visit frequency, turf area, trimming boundaries and clipping policy; use the lawn care template for that scope.
