Connect freelance billing to the accepted output
An invoice should let the client recognize the assignment without searching a long conversation. Use the project title, accepted deliverable and completed milestone as the billing description. This freelance writer example also shows how to separate an approved interview addition from the original article scope.

How to use the template.
- Start with the billing name and project reference supplied by the client. Check whether an order number is needed for their own process.
- Describe delivered work in the terms of the accepted brief, keeping hourly work, fixed deliverables and approved additions recognizable.
- Support expense reimbursements and check the approved revision before adding an extra-work line.
- Replace all fictional values, reconcile prior payments and share the reviewed invoice with the proper billing contact.
Useful answers.
How detailed should a freelance writer's invoice be?
Include the project or article title, completed deliverable or milestone and the agreed billing basis. Add approval references for extras so the client can recognize the charge without receiving unnecessary research or personal information.
Can I bill for time when the original agreement was a fixed deliverable?
Follow the accepted charging basis. If the scope changed, obtain approval for the added work rather than converting the original fixed fee into an unexplained hourly bill.
Is there an invoice generator for freelancers on this site?
The related invoice generator can prepare a document in your browser without signing up. This page provides a separate editable sample; review its descriptions and figures before using either output.
