Make a freelance proposal easy to approve by milestone
A useful freelance proposal turns a broad request into a sequence the client can review. Name the research, draft, feedback and final handoff rather than quoting an unexplained project total. This example uses a writing assignment; adapt the deliverables and assumptions to the work you actually offer.

[Identify intended audience, deliverable length, source material and client factual-review responsibilities.]
[Define included revisions and the process for an added deliverable or changed direction.]
[State whether interviews, image research, layout, publication or editable files are included.]
[Replace figures and add applicable tax, proposed payment terms and proposal validity.]
How to use the template.
- Describe the client's intended result and a deliverable you can identify at handoff, using the brief as an attachment.
- Break out meaningful milestones instead of splitting one fee into arbitrary lines that add no scope information.
- List client inputs and approval dependencies. Identify whether research, interviews, fact checking and publication are yours or the client's responsibility.
- Estimate your own time and business costs, choose the actual charging basis and replace every invented amount before review.
Useful answers.
Can the proposal use a fixed project fee?
Yes, if you define the deliverable and boundaries clearly. Milestone descriptions can explain a fixed scope without suggesting the client is buying an unlimited number of working hours.
Should revision work be a separate line?
Use whichever presentation fits your agreement, but describe what is included. The purpose is to clarify feedback and direction changes, not to make every small correction look like an unapproved extra.
What if the client supplies incomplete source material?
Identify that dependency before acceptance and explain how missing information affects the proposed work or timing. Review a changed scope with the client rather than silently promising unsupported research.
Keep exploring.
