Show the hanging, finishing and repair work on a drywall invoice

A wall can be hung, taped and sanded without being ready for the finish the customer expected. Make the completed stage visible on the bill. This drywall invoice example uses room names, board area and finishing work so the client can compare the invoice with the approved scope rather than guessing what a single labor line includes.

How to use the template.

  1. Compare your room measurements with the completed work. State whether openings were deducted and use the measurement basis in the original agreement.
  2. Name the finishing stage and the wall or ceiling area. Separate patch repairs from new-board installation when the client approved them separately.
  3. Record agreed corner bead, texture matching and access work with the relevant room. Do not bill for painting simply because the surface was sanded.
  4. Replace all fictional amounts, account for prior payments and explain any approved extra visit caused by other trades reopening the wall.
  5. Download the reviewed document and share it through your own sending method, keeping the accepted scope and completion notes together.

Useful answers.

How should I describe a partially completed drywall job?

Bill only the stage permitted by the agreement. Identify hanging, taping or finishing separately and show which rooms reached that stage. A progress invoice should not describe unperformed sanding or painting as complete.

Where do small patches belong on the invoice?

Give patches their own description when location, access or texture makes them different from the main area. Include backing and finishing only if you actually supplied them under the approved scope.

Can this sample distinguish smooth finish from texture work?

Yes. Edit the finish description and room reference rather than relying on the word finished. Note any agreed sample panel or texture reference and disclose work excluded from the invoice.
