Software for painters

Describe the preparation before you price the finish.

A wall that needs patching, sanding and protection is different work from a sound wall ready for a repaint. Put those differences into the estimate so the client can understand the price and the crew can understand the scope.

Make room for the real work.

  • Interior wall repaint
  • Ceiling and trim painting
  • Exterior preparation and coating
  • Cabinet refinishing work
  • Rental turnover repaint
  • Previously damaged surface preparation

How it works.

  1. Survey surfaces instead of counting rooms alone

Measure the relevant walls, ceilings, trim or exterior areas and note their condition. Identify protection, furniture movement, access and exclusions. Painting & decorating setup uses Job, Client and Properties in Microtra; retain the site notes with the work so a room label does not replace the details that shaped your estimate.

  2. Separate preparation from coating work

Describe cleaning, filling, sanding, priming and finish coats where those stages form part of the agreement. Use units that match your own estimating method and explain what is included. Keep substantial repairs or unassessed areas distinct rather than letting a phrase such as complete decoration imply unlimited preparation on every surface.

  3. Review the inputs behind every saved item

Reusable services can speed up familiar descriptions, but check quantities, material information, labor assumptions and overhead for the actual site. Working around occupants, protecting floors or reaching high trim can change effort. Enter your own prices, markups and tax settings deliberately, then read the document as a client would before sharing its PDF through your device.

  4. Keep the estimate useful once work begins

Organize tasks from the agreed scope and record actual time and purchased-material expenses as the job proceeds. If preparation reveals additional work, discuss it and revise the estimate before proceeding. Review the completed job's records when assessing a similar property so extra masking, sanding or access work improves your next judgment.

Useful answers.

Does the app calculate paint coverage from room dimensions?

You measure the work and calculate quantities using the relevant product information and your own estimating process. Enter checked quantities and prices in Microtra; this page does not promise an automatic coverage or drawing-takeoff tool.

Should I price trim separately from walls?

Choose a structure that makes the agreed work clear. Separate trim when its preparation, coating method or inclusion needs its own explanation, rather than relying on a room total that leaves the client unsure what is covered.

How can I show an uncertain repair area?

Describe what was visible at inspection and what still needs assessment. Keep unconfirmed repairs outside the definite scope or explain the assumption clearly, then discuss any revised work before proceeding.

Can the estimate help with progress invoicing?

Progress invoices from estimates are a live invoicing capability. Review the agreed billing arrangement and completed work before preparing each invoice, and keep descriptions clear enough to show which portion of the project it concerns.
