Agree on the preparation as well as the paint

A color name does not describe a painting job. Preparation, repairs, masking, surface condition and the areas left unpainted often matter just as much. This PDF and editable DOCX outline helps you assemble a clear scope before your attorney prepares the agreement.

Inside the downloadable sample

  • Areas, substrates and exclusions
  • Preparation and discovered deterioration
  • Paint system and color approval
  • Occupied rooms and site protection
  • Price attachment and written variations
  • Walkthrough, touch-ups and leftover materials

The PDF and editable DOCX contain the sample clauses and blank agreement fields. Microtra does not generate contracts.

How to use the template.

  1. Survey the surfaces and separate ordinary preparation from repair work needing further assessment.
  2. Attach the selected paint system, colors and room or elevation list to the editable document.
  3. Have a qualified attorney in your state review the outline and any warranty or cancellation provisions.
  4. Keep the signed, reviewed scope and record color changes before purchasing or applying replacement paint.

Useful answers.

How detailed should surface preparation be?

Name the operations included for each substrate rather than writing only prep and paint. Patching nail holes, repairing rotten trim and removing a failing coating are different amounts of work.

What happens when a client changes color after approval?

Use a written variation describing paint already purchased, work already done and the proposed effect on price and timing. Your attorney can prepare appropriate approval language.

Does the sample supply a painting warranty?

No. It prompts a discussion about completion and any warranty you intend to offer. Have an attorney review the promise against your actual products, preparation and service process.
