Explain the repair before the customer authorizes it

An estimate should connect the symptom the driver reported to the work the shop proposes. Identify the vehicle, name the diagnostic step and separate replacement parts from the labor that fits them. Use this sample for a proposed repair, with unresolved findings called out before the customer authorizes work; it is not a final bill.

How to use the template.

  1. Copy the reported concern and vehicle identifiers from intake; confirm the estimate belongs to the right vehicle.
  2. Describe the proposed operations so the customer can distinguish inspection, labor and parts. Avoid billing an unconfirmed repair as certain.
  3. Replace the fictional quantities and amounts with the shop estimate and identify which items depend on further findings.
  4. Explain approval and revision steps before work begins. Keep the accepted estimate revision with the repair records.

Useful answers.

Should a diagnostic charge appear on an estimate?

If it is part of the proposed scope, show it separately and explain what it covers. Do not bury diagnosis in an unrelated parts line or imply testing guarantees a repair outcome.

How do I handle a repair found during teardown?

Prepare a clearly referenced revision describing the finding, additional proposed work and effect on the estimate. Follow your reviewed authorization procedure before proceeding.

Is this an auto repair invoice?

No. It describes proposed work and example amounts. Issue an invoice that reflects completed authorized operations, actual parts supplied and prior payments when billing is due.
