Software for plumbing business owners

Quote the fittings, access and finish separately.

An estimate for an exposed valve is different from one hidden behind tile. Start with the observed work, the parts specification and the access you expect. Microtra gives you items, quantities, prices and notes for the document; your inspection and judgment determine the scope.

Make room for the real work.

  • Fixture supply and installation
  • Accessible pipe section replacement
  • Water heater removal and replacement
  • Drain investigation allowance
  • Bathroom rough-in work
  • Isolation valve upgrade

How it works.

  1. Write down what you could inspect

Record the property and requested repair, with notes about access to isolation points, working space and visible pipework. Explain any limitation of the inspection. Keep opening walls, concealed damage and finish restoration distinct so an estimate does not quietly promise more than you assessed.

  2. Build quantities from the actual task

Use saved items for the fixture or component, measured pipe length, fittings, disposal and labor. Enter the units that match your calculation and verify supplier information yourself. Microtra supports quantities, prices, markups and tax settings; it does not measure a building or select a technical specification for you.

  3. Offer alternatives with readable boundaries

Explain whether the estimate covers supply and installation or installation of an owner-supplied item. Keep alternative fixture choices understandable in the notes, including how a different connection or inaccessible valve could affect the scope. Review the final document before sharing its PDF from your device.

  4. Carry approved work into billing

Review changes with the client before recording them. Progress invoices can come from estimates; make each stage and its relationship to the agreed work clear. Compare any added investigation or replacement work against what the original document included instead of treating it as an invisible adjustment.

Useful answers.

Does the app calculate pipe lengths from plans?

Take measurements and prepare quantities yourself. Enter those quantities and your selected rates into the estimate. The document tools organize the calculation you supply; they do not provide plumbing design or automatic takeoff.

Where should I explain a hidden-damage allowance?

Describe the uncertainty in the estimate notes, including what inspection could not establish and what would need another approval. Keep an allowance distinguishable from a confirmed item and discuss how you will handle any change.

How should I choose a labor rate?

Work from your labor cost, overhead, realistic working time and margin goal. Check the likely task duration and access conditions. No universal rate can replace that calculation for your own business.

Can I reuse common installation items?

Saved items help you repeat descriptions and units for familiar work. Review each quantity, specification and supplier cost before using it again; an earlier fixture installation may have had very different connections and access.
