Software for repair shop owners

Explain the repair before the wrench turns.

A useful estimate separates what the inspection established from work that still needs investigation. List the parts, labor and assumptions the vehicle owner can review. Microtra lets a small repair business build estimates from reusable items and quantities, keep them with the Client and Job, and share the document PDF through a device.

Make room for the real work.

  • Diagnostic labor before a repair decision
  • Brake pads and rotor replacement
  • Water pump and coolant work
  • Starter replacement after testing
  • Suspension component repair
  • Fluid and filter service

How it works.

  1. Turn inspection findings into a defined scope

Write down the reported concern and your findings in the Job. Include vehicle identifiers in the notes; Trades & construction uses Job and Client, with Properties as its linked-record term. State whether the estimate covers diagnosis alone, a confirmed repair or further investigation before any additional work can be priced.

    See the jobs feature
  2. Break the work into readable items

Use saved items for the parts and services you actually sell. Give labor a meaningful description and unit, and show part quantities separately. Distinguish an assembly from a minor fitting or consumable so the owner can understand the proposed work. You supply compatibility, labor allowances and supplier information; the app does not calculate those from a vehicle model.

    See the invoicing feature
  3. Make assumptions visible before sharing

Check any shop-supply line, markup and applicable tax settings. Explain exclusions such as damage only visible after disassembly, and describe how you will discuss additional work. Share the estimate PDF through your device. Maintain authorization through your own business process rather than treating a shared PDF as permission to carry out every possible repair.

    See the invoicing feature
  4. Carry agreed work through to billing

Keep the approved scope and changes with the repair Job. After completing the work, prepare the invoice from the services and materials actually supplied, using progress invoicing from an estimate where appropriate. Review any changed part or labor line with the owner so the final document can be understood alongside the earlier estimate.

Useful answers.

Is Microtra a permanently free repair estimating app?

Microtra is paid software with a free trial; see the pricing page for plan details. This page does not promise a permanent free plan. The estimate workflow is for your own parts descriptions, quantities and labor assumptions, with a PDF shared from your device.

Does it supply book labor times or parts fitment?

You choose the items, units and labor allowance. This page does not claim a vehicle parts catalog, book-time database or fitment lookup. Verify supplier specifications and your inspection findings before presenting a quote, especially when trim level or an earlier repair changes what is needed.

Can an estimate show diagnostic work separately?

Yes. Describe the diagnostic service as its own item and explain what it covers. If the repair cannot be defined until inspection, make that limit clear. Discuss the next scope directly with the owner before adding work that was outside the original agreement.

Can the client pay a deposit from the estimate?

Card deposits and pay links are coming soon. Share the PDF through your device, arrange any agreed payment through your existing method and record payment received in the app. Check the estimate details and the repair authorization separately from the payment record.
